hot water happiness

i may not have hot water for the fifth time this month  .. but i'm still a happy girl. 


here are five simple reasons. 

1. today a sizeable box waited for me patiently on my doorstep. 
Full of BOOKS. Read.Alouds.. . writing books and of course, books about food -  glorious food. 


2. this month, i got a lot of sister.. . family. time. 
Surprise 70th for my dad and then a family wedding this past weekend in Ohio.

Could Aidan, my nephew be any cuter? 

Writing his well wishes to the bride and groom.

i love him to bits, pieces.. . little dustlets.

3.   my hair hitting my collarbone. 
      year after year.
      cut it, grow it, cut it, dark, light, dark.. . back and forth.  
      my hairdresser won't be seeing me any time soon. 
      i'm enjoying this growing season.

4.  this sound 

     these words. 

You were waiting at the door. 

I let you in.

Here are a few things i've been loving recently.


.knitting and cross.stitch
.breaking my camera back out again in full force. 
.cooking and yes.. finally, baking - the kitchen is feeling Used.  
.trying out some new make.up tricks.. .wingtip eyeliner and new products.
.Back to School projects make this teacher Smile. 
.craftiness with canvases, paint and stenciling. 


I bought this a bit ago from wit & whistle and finally hung it.
i've been busy making quite a lot - some sucky, some not so bad, some possibly good. 
All of it, i've .Loved working on.

I have five or six drafted posts rolling around in my head.

Among the millions .. .thousands..  ok FINE .  hundreds of things I do during the day,
I find that I am "writing" while I'm driving or in the shower.
When it comes to actually publishing though, many times it never comes to fruition until weeks later. 

i need to get a handle on this somehow.

nonetheless, long story short.

today when I watched this video of my dad and i from a few weeks ago, i was thinking how my mom would definitely be tagging it similarly.
"things that made me smile"

my dad and i had an impromptu photo.shoot out in the front yard of all the flowers my mom had planted years and years ago.
my favorites of course, you will recognize from a few posts back.

the best part, of course, is my dad laughing.
these are the best moments, hearing him like that.

she is indeed smiling.
i can feel it.

this. makes me smile

i'm not sure why. really
_ but i'm fine with that.
i continue to stare at it.


pretty much know i'll never get the $595.00 to stare at it on my on walls.
there's the same chance of getting a live elephant in my own living room.

Majestic No.5 Trash Receptacle

one of my favorite things in my apartment 

.although i never use it. 

an old garbage receptacle that allows pick.up outside. 

they still pick up my garbage 

[i'm indeed a lucky gal] .. 

but my bags are always too big to fit in this tiny wall can. 

i use the window to dump the goods. 

my dad seems to think someone is going to crawl in it one day. 

he would love to nail wooden boards over it. 

that would just ruin all its charm though

who would be able to fit through there?

but this one is quite special.
watched You, Me and Dupree again tonight. can't remember how many times i've seen it.
but this caught my attention. as silly as it is. it's so very true.
we all have this in us.
some [insert name here] - ness. 
my happiness in the last couple of years has come partially because i've finally felt comfortable being MYSELF.
and not caring what others think.
not being concerned if people don't like what i say.
or what i wear or what i think.
they may very likely think i'm kooky..or as one of my besties has nicknamed me, loopy.. .
and i'm fine with that.

in fact, i quite like it.
