the ninth month, the eighth day

Here's a snapshot.
life as of 9.8.14

Eating:

One of the many times I feel blessed to live in new jersey.
Yes..  blessed by the Sloppy Joe.

Reading:

on my Kindle
I've started carrying it in my purse.. .Now that I've started using more than just a wallet.
It easily slips right in and i'm out the door.

Listening to:

Wearing:: : and REwearing.

Old brown Target cargos.
The fabric is so thin and cozy I wish I could wear them to work.
and like every other piece of clothing i own.. . they have a small hole in them.
Makes me feel vintage chic.

Wishing:
I could paint my nails with this color : Opi - A Man in Every Port-ugal

without THIS happening. The right hand is always a beast.

Thankful for:
The 15th pay day that is appearing JUST around the corner.
My bank account will soon be back in business.

1.2.. Wait for it.. .3

my chalkboard Calendar at school makes me one happy teacher.
can't say i used my own chalk.
i have a special teacher friend who lends me such cool supplies.
but how pretty, huh?
can't wait to change it up each month.
UPDATE
LOOK CAREFULLY AT THIS PHOTO
*my aide ever so sweetly informed me on the second day of school
that the first day wasn't JULY 4th*
Back to School teacher brain is BaAad!

this made me laugh so hard today.
it's the "i'll be back" chuckle,
arm on the table.. . part that really makes me cackle.

these homemades were inspired by this beaut, my sister.
Find her at The Last Bite.

just salt, pepper, olive oil.. . a quick trip in the oven and you have  -- -

keep focused on chocolate

two things have been in focus in my life recently
:the creation of several behavior modification charts
:and justin's hazelnut butter.

if i could use a spoonful of justin's as a reward [yes _ i said REWARD],
i'm pretty sure, i could eliminate ANY SORT of behavior chart.

wouldn't life just be simpler?

one spoonful for the kid, one for me.. .
done. and doner.

Sweet.eats in my fridge

here are a few things in my kitchen that have given me much pleasure in the last week or so.
all of these are either from Kings or Whole Foods.
as a result, I've probably spent more money than I should of on all of these items.
it seems you can find them online as well .. . and probably hunt them down for better prices.

i love these Chimes candies just as much for the packaging as for the product.
I've always been a fan of ginger chews with their powdered sugared covering and the spicy goodness inside.
but this tin?!
and look how the top opens??
you know i'm saving this for keeps.

[i have a couple of tins stashed all over - mango in my apartment, original in my car.. .]

Bubbies
unlike ANYTHING else.
.you've gotta give these a try.
Strawberry Dark Chocolate Chip is my favorite flavor.
Although, I'm needing to give some more a taste.
Check out the their website for the varieties.

these taste so divine.
.fresh.
tart

For the last few weeks, I have been receiving gifts of Pocky from two students in my class.
They know I beyond love it. ..
they know it makes me beyond happy.
and who wouldn't want to make their teacher happy at the end of the school year?
I am hoping to get another special delivery this week.
i won't lie.

if you've never had ... you can get it @ amazon.
I will be ordering a large shipment come June 22: the end of the school year.
i can't wait until september.

goings on in 7H

i walked to Kings yesterday.
my sister was proud of me.
i was exhausted..
[yes, it was only a bit down the street.]
but i was lugging three giant bags of groceries.
through the underground train station.

inside one of the bags was THIS.
i splurged.
it was.. . [deep BREATH]]] ]
$14.99
.sinful.
yes, but not only in price.

Hot chocolate is one of those things that you might as well Not have _ unless it makes your soul quiver.
and honestly, if i need to spend that much i will.

it will last for a few months.
maybe

and i'll share.
maybe

making a animated gif

i saw this commercial on tv the other day and my heart skipped a beat.
i'm pretty easy to impress

hoping it's not a disapointment.
there is nothing that captures the feeling of boutique shopping though
especially attempting to do it with those awkward red carts and mismatched wheels
as much as i adore you, Target... .

quit your day job soon.. .maybe

I have come across so many beautiful and inspiring food blogs lately
I feel as if I need to quit teaching to stay home and cook.
Clearly, I wouldn't have money to purchase the goods to even start the meal.
So scratch that idea.
.for now at least.
I'll gather my list of sites and share later - but drop you just a teaser from Proud Italian Cook

7.22.2011

you've caught my attention.

I will admit, I've become quite addicted to the Cooking Channel.
I really don't watch much television at all other than that.
These two recipes today, made me swoon.

from:
Jamie _  I could watch him cook all day long.
and Giada. this recipe was such a vibrant combination.
Click on the Recipe name for any other details.

Ingredients

  • 5 big leeks, outer leaves trimmed back, washed
  • Olive oil
  • 3 good knobs butter, divided
  • 3 cloves garlic, peeled and finely sliced
  • A few sprigs fresh thyme, leaves picked
  • A small wineglass white wine
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pint good-quality vegetable or chicken stock
  • 12 slices ham, preferably Parma
  • 2 (8-ounce) packages fresh lasagne sheets
  • All-purpose flour, for dusting
  • 2 handfuls freshly grated Parmesan, plus extra for serving

For the Pangrattato:

  • 1 small handful dried porcini mushrooms
  • 1/2 ciabatta bread, preferably stale, cut into chunks
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary

Directions

Halve the leeks lengthways and cut at an angle into 1/2-inch slices. Heat a wide saucepan, add a splash of oil and a knob of butter, and when you hear a gentle sizzling add the sliced garlic, thyme leaves and leeks. Move the leeks around so every piece gets coated. Pour in the wine, season with pepper and stir in the stock. Cover the leeks with the slices of Parma ham, place a lid on the pan and cook gently for 25 to 30 minutes.[OH mmmmm.mmy!] Once the leeks are tender, take the pan off the heat.

To make the pangrattato:

Whiz the mushrooms and bread with a pinch of salt and pepper in a food processor until the mixture looks like bread crumbs. Heat a generous glug of olive oil in a frying pan. Add the garlic cloves and the rosemary and cook for a minute, then fry the bread crumbs in the oil until golden and crisp. Keep shaking the pan - don't let the bread crumbs catch on the bottom. Drain on paper towels, discard therosemary and garlic and allow the bread crumbs to cool.

Bring a big pan of salted water to the boil. Lay the lasagne sheets on a clean working surface and sprinkle with a little flour. Place the sheets on top of each other and slice into 1/2-inch strips. Toss through your fingers to shake out the pappardelle, then cook in the boiling water 2 minutes or until al dente.
Remove the Parma ham from the saucepan, slice up and stir back into the leeks. Season to taste with salt and pepper, then stir in the Parmesan and the rest of the butter. Drain the pasta, reserving a little of the cooking water, and add the pasta to the leeks. Add a little of the cooking water if need be, to give you a silky, smooth sauce. Serve quickly, sprinkled with some pangrattato, extra Parmesan and any leftover thyme tips. Serve the rest of the pangrattato in a bowl on the side.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 grapefruits, trimmed of skin and cut into large slices
  • 1/2 red onion, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup pitted chopped black olives
  • 1 bunch basil, leaves thinly sliced (about 1 cup)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped chives
  • 3 tablespoons aged balsamic vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper

DIRECTIONS

Place the grapefruit slices in a slightly overlapping pattern on a serving platter. Sprinkle the onion slices over the grapefruit. Then sprinkle the olives. Top with the basil and chives. Drizzle the balsamic vinegar and olive oil over the salad. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and serve.
