who You are

This song came across Pandora early this morning.
I had to stop what I was doing.. . even if the scrambled eggs were overcooked  _ and turn the volume up.

Isaiah 40:26

It's all proclaiming who You are
You're beautiful

cassette tapes of my life

ever since i've been in junior school, i've been obsessed with .soundtracks.
i probably have 100 cassette tapes in large tupperware containers in dusty bins at my parents' house.

playing them would surely rewind and drop me to a simpler place and time
.to that naive little girl.

i think in many ways, i am a bigger version of her today
for better or worse.
and my love of soundtracks remains.

I often hear soundtracks playing in my mind,  as i go about my day.
i'm not sure if this is 'normal' _ but i'm ok with that.
the songs vary from day to day.

i heard this one today.
this song feels like one that belongs on daily repeat.

.made it to the coastline.

the box is Boring.

in the last couple of years, i've come to many many realizations.
had several epiphanies..
i've been busy.
yes
indeed.

something that may seem somewhat superficial
.. but, in a way is "bigger picture" is my appreciation for things that lie outside of mainstream culture.
beyond what the typical, average person likes or to which he or she is accustomed.

a somewhat silly example when i open my closet each morning:
purposely mismatching clothing
making ugly things appear pretty, desirable in the right outfit

on a daily basis, it seems this applies to everything:: :
music
food
art
even who my friends are.
..  who i thought they would be. who they ended up being.
and I LOVE This about my life.

everything out of the ordinary. becomes my ordinary
I find pleasure looking beyond.
in fact, it's an activity i've asked my students to do each year.
encourage them to stretch their boundaries_
those 'DO NOT CROSS' lines start to form even as young as nine and ten.

i stumbled upon this video today
and in all of its oddities.. .
absolutely loved it.
it is a creative .vision

when something can spin my mind around and set it back upside down,
i'm grateful to have encountered it as part of my day

respite

my mom used to buy me a wall calendar every Christmas.
you could always tell which present it was. Two skinny square packages sitting under the tree ... one for my sister, the other_ mine. Without fail, every December 25th. Except this past one. Now, I can't really complain considering I received the best present of all, this laptop I now am typing with.

The problem, though, with this missing present is quite troublesome.
Have you ever searched for a calendar in January or February??? [not good. not good at all.]

When you're shopping during the holidays there are stacks and shelves full of them, varying from cheesy baby angel ones all the way to lighthouses of the world. But it seems some poor Borders employee has the job of packing these all up once the first of January rolls around.

Nonetheless, I have been without a wall calendar in my kitchen coming on three months now. Actually, truth be told, I still have the old one up. I just picked my favorite month from last year and kept it on that.

Today, in an effort to solve this problem, I went on Daily Planner.com of which I'm a fan. But today, nothing caught my eye. On next to calendars.com.
It seems one needing a calendar would be sure to find one here.
And I'm close to a winner, I think.
Still not sure if this is the one. I'm at 50%.

As I was searching, I came across this one photo.
It looked as if it was stolen from my iPhoto library. Take a closer look at the bottom row. It's the very house I caught with my camera this past summer. Cute_ but too pink.
I much liked another.

I have been wanting to blog about this house since I arrived home last August from Martha's Vineyard. There is a little village of Gingerbread houses come to life in the CampMeeting Association. My dad explained it all to me as we drove round and round in awe at the houses. A small religious village with a worship area that it centered round. I'm forgetting the details now_but the details weren't really all that important.
This one house was.
I loved it.
The colors.
The woodwork.
But more important its name.

res·pite

[res-pit] noun, verb,-pit·ed, -pit·ing.
1.
a delay or cessation for a time, esp. of anything distressing or trying; an interval of relief: to toil without respite.

today was a fairytale

i had an epiphany of sorts today, as i was driving home and loving this song by taylor swift:

i'm caught in my own little fairytale world.. Nah _ not meaning everything is full of fancy, carefree and wonderful. i'm far from that. but everything that i gravitate toward seems to be fitting of a disney fairytale. I think i never grew out of that.

i'm the one at work who wears flowers in her heart.
just bought a skirt half made of tulle [an adult version of a tutu], glitter eyeshadow is almost an every other day thing. butterflies, ladybugs and white twinkle lights capture my attention in heartbeat.

and if i could get away with wearing a tiara everyday i would. not cause i think i'm a princess. not at all. just cause, well.. . it makes me feel special. is that silly?

maybe.

but a little sparkle can cheer up even the dullest day.

God's Fingerprints

I stumbled upon a gem of a blog today, The Rusted Chain, where today was named 'Fingerprint Friday'. The question being asked was one i reflect on quite frequently, Where do you find God's fingerprints?

The directions:
1. Blog with your interpretation of God's fingerprints. Be sure to link back here so others can find the entire list of participants!

.. . If you scroll through my Beyond the Ordinary tag, you will find that many of these entries speak of this very topic_ But one entry from last year immediately came to mine when I read Rusted Chain's challenge for the day.

this entry from last year _ To the Door Delivery
hope you enjoy, as much as i did that day.

quarantine

'Little Mossy Guy' from Etsy:
TortoiseLovesDonkey

so i'm stuck in my apartment. tomorrow's a snow day. already got the call. not entirely "stuck", i guess_ i am planning a snowdate out in my front lawn tomorrow. With me, myself, and three layers of clothes. Kinda feel guilty, not enjoying all of the snow that we have received of late. I'll go make a snow angel. Maybe two, I don't want it to be lonesome.

i'm feeling "stuck" or rather quarantined, because of a situation that has forced me to take leave from my Facebook community. Is it kinda like that phrase, you don't know what you got til it's gone?... Not quite, i know.

But i've realized a few things 1. how much time I waste on there.
2. how much i miss silly banter with my friends 3. i miss chattin' with my sister. 4. how angry and a bit fearful i am at the ridiculous stranger "stalker" who has led to this predicament. 5. how much i want to just log back on... . I realize i am ranting now. all to say that being "stuck" inside without the ability to electronically communicate with people in the outside world sucks. Why not just pick up the phone, right?.. I know you're thinking that. . so am I.

below are snapshots of inspiration i have found the last few days. These have distracted and inspired me to continue living a snow angel life, without Facebook.. . and maybe even make a snowman tomorrow.

with your fingertips

tonight, in the sky, is one of those moons.
the type that if you climbed up the highest branch
_of the tallest tree
and reached with all your might..
you could just grab hold of . ..

that feels like the perfect escape right about now.
